BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
St Mary's School, Cambridge welcomes girls from the age of four into the Junior School, where we take great pride in nurturing their progress to Senior School at age 11, where in turn we develop their independence, both personal and intellectual, ahead of A Level studies in our Sixth Form, age 16. Our independence allows us to incorporate the best combination of traditional and modern teaching and learning approaches to achieve excellence in every possible area of provision, according to our latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report.
Our girls thrive in an extraordinary environment of self-development, new friendships, and discovery of passion. Established on a founding vision which is over 400 years old, our educational provision continues to be tailored for girls. Ours is a Christian school of Catholic heritage in which girls of all faith and secular backgrounds are warmly welcomed and where the precious uniqueness of each individual is valued.
Reflecting, valuing and celebrating the cosmopolitan community of Cambridge, a quarter of our students are from overseas, from around 30 countries worldwide. Senior School and Sixth Form girls are invited to board on a weekly, flexible or a full-time basis, in our newly-refurbished Mary Ward House in Brooklands Avenue: a beautiful home next door to the Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
St Mary’ s School, Cambridge is located in the heart of the city of Cambridge, so our girls can easily experience the most culturally vibrant of all of Britain’ s cities, visiting a vast number of museums, scenic spots and entertainment venues. Set against the backdrop of the world renowned University of Cambridge, we make use of a wide range of university facilities, including rowing on the River Cam, the University of Cambridge’ s athletics track, and West Road Concert Hall. The city has seen an incredible explosion of technology in recent decades, and the Science Parks which form the core of the UK’ s ‘ Silicon Fen’ grant our girls access to an impressive network of individuals and innovative companies.
Our grades prove time and again that our girls can and do achieve highly in all subjects across the board and not just those that are traditionally dominated by females; demonstrating not only the ability of our students but the quality of our teachers too. Confidence and self-belief, coupled with exceptional teaching in a very supportive environment from Reception through to Sixth Form, consistently produces very strong public examination results, including clear Value Added attainment.
However, we are interested in so much more than simple academic excellence. Our caring, inclusive ethos is genuine. From our ‘ sport for all’ mantra, which ensures girls experience a wide variety of sports in order to discover those about which they are passionate, to our pastoral provision, grounded in love, respect and trust, our community confidently, joyfully and ambitiously nurtures all aspects of a girl’ s development.
