Southwestern Academy offers a college preparatory school with small classes limited to 9 to 12 students. Founded in 1924 we are excited to begin our 91st School Year this fall welcoming U.S. and international students with strong academic abilities who are eager to learn and strengthen English-language skills.  We are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Southwestern Academy offers students the opportunity to study at either of two distinctly different and beautiful campuses. The San Marino, California, campus is situated in a historic orange grove area near Pasadena. The Arizona campus, which is known as Beaver Creek Ranch, is located deep in a red-rock canyon in northern Arizona.

Advanced Placement classes are available in English, history, language, math, and science. International students are offered three levels of classes in English as a second language (ESL), including an introductory class, to prepare them to enter and succeed in other academic areas.

Beginning in the ninth grade, every effort is made to assist students in researching a variety of colleges and universities. A variety of college representatives are invited annually to visit each campus and meet with students.

Approximately 35 students graduate each year from Southwestern Academy. 100 % of our students have been accepted to enter a universities and colleges in the United States,  Europe, and Asia. Graduates have been accepted to: Art Center College of Design; Boston College; Boston University; Brown; Columbia; Loyola; Marymount; Occidental; Parsons; Penn State; Pepperdine; Pitzer; Swarthmore; USC, Whittier; Woodbury; Wooster; Xavier; and the Universities of California, Berkley, Davis, Los Angeles, San Diego,  Nevada, New Orleans, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Toronto, Virginia,  and Washington (Seattle).

Gyms and playing fields are available to all students at both campuses, where sports opportunities exist for physical education requirements and recreation. As a member of federated leagues in California and Arizona, Southwestern Academy fields teams at both campuses in all major sports except tackle football. Athletic events are held in late afternoon, following the regular school day.

Students in good standing may leave the campus, with permission, during any weekend. Visits are planned to Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, and Big Surf, and the other attractions of the two-state areas.

Summer school sessions are offered at both campuses. Both offer intensive yet enjoyable individualized classes in English and other subjects, plus educational and recreational trips to interesting places in southern California and northern Arizona.

The summer program is an excellent opportunity for non-English-speaking international students and provides an entire semester of the appropriate ESL level necessary to successfully complete a college-preparatory curriculum.

Southwestern Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, creed, or sex. We accept the TABS and SSAT applications and our application is online.   Interviews with prospective international students and parents are scheduled by the admissions office and do not require a campus visit.
