Educating young men in today's world may be perceived by some as a challenge. At Archbishop Riordan High School, we consider it an honor. As the oldest all-boys school in San Francisco, California we have taught young men in the Marianist tradition for more than 60 years. The school serves 675 young men from the U.S. and around the world. The school welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, each with their own unique abilities and personal gifts, and holds them to high standards. A rigorous college preparatory curriculum prepares students for the next phase of their education, and a range of sports, activities and clubs helps to develop the whole person. We are proud of our ability to accept boys and graduate men who have developed in faith, intellect and service.
Global Environment: The Residential Boarding Program at Archbishop Riordan
Currently Archbishop Riordan offers the only urban centered boarding program in the Western United States. Both the boarding students’ and the day students’ lives and academic experience are enriched by the exchange of ideas among young men from different parts of the globe.
School’s academic program uniquely prepares students for the rigors of college academics. Our rigorous and relevant academic model allows students and teachers to explore concepts in greater depth and with more real-world examples. We offer nineteen Advanced Placement courses, the equivalent of an introductory college-level course,
The development of leadership skills is essential to the Archbishop Riordan experience; our students leave campus prepared to be leaders in whatever career path they choose. We proudly provide our young men the opportunity to lead the student government, clubs, athletics, campus ministry activities, and in the visual and performing arts.
Focus on Faith
Archbishop Riordan is a Catholic school of the Marianists tradition, an educational philosophy that aspires to emulate the Christian spirit in education. Students join an inclusive community of caring people who treat each other as family. In addition to a theology curriculum, student participate in retreats, peer ministry teams, and community service programs to develop and strengthen their personal faith in God and appreciate and respect the personal faiths of others.
Our Students & Alumni
We are proud of the accomplishments of our students, both in and out of the classroom. They have won numerous athletic championships, competed in national music competitions, and earned awards for their service to the community. Our graduates attend some of the finest universities in the United States including Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. Our graduates are making significant contributions to the fields of finance, law, education, science, and technology.
We compete in the prestigious West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL), one of the most competitive athletic leagues in the United States. Our athletes have a record of success—more than 60 athletes in the past two decades have gone on to play at the highest level of collegiate athletics. The majority of our staff has coaching experience at the collegiate level. Eleven sports are offered.
